Kundalini Yoga: Adi Shakti Meditation
My introduction to Kundalini Yoga was interesting… It started back in 2012, I was on the hunt for a book on the chakras when I stumbled on Gurmukh’s book The 8 Human Talents. Which then led me to her studio, Golden Bridge, in Los Angeles. Life changing. I should say that I did not like yoga. Tried it, hated it. Many times actually. But what I did love was mantra, meditation, and mudra (which is yoga, but you know what I mean). So, when I stumbled upon Kundalini Yoga, it was a very WOW moment for me. It combined everything that I loved doing. It’s practical, it’s holistic, it doesn’t leave the spiritual aspects of yoga out… In fact, it’s front and center as it should be.
May 1, 2012… a life-changing day. I felt so attracted to this radiant woman with her white turban and loving smile
One of the first things that I noted after a few weeks of practice was that my body-mind often felt like it did after an acupuncture session. Wait, I can make myself feel that good? Being able to put our health and happiness into our own hands, literally, is a profoundly empowering feeling. Especially when you’re experiencing significant health and happiness challenges.
Golden Bridge was a bit of a trek for me, especially in that horrid LA traffic, so I found myself utilizing books, YouTube and even DVDs (remember those?!) often. This video of Nirinjan Kaur was one of the first that I found on YouTube. I fell in love with her presence and her voice immediately. It’s a simply beautiful meditation that works to create big change if you practice consistently. To this day, when I practice with this video, I feel a bit overwhelmed emotionally. And so very grateful to have found my way to Kundalini Yoga.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and don’t forget to find her mantra-music on Spotify.
Golden Bridge closed doors just a few years after I discovered it. But Gurmukh still teaches at 80-something years old! A testament to the health and happiness benefits of Kundalini Yoga.
